Arsen Hovanesyan Biography

I am a first generation immigrant, who was born in Yerevan, Armenia and came to the United States at the age of 11 years. My family was pursuing freedom from communist oppression.

Growing up with a family of four, in a 450 square foot one bedroom apartment in Hollywood, my destiny, like that of so many other children at the time, was a path of street life, surrounded with kids aspiring to join tagging crews and Los Angeles gangs, and frequent run ins with the law.

Things changed for me in school when I had a wake up after nearly failing a class, for not applying myself. A math teacher named Mr. Haack in Junior High once told me that I was very good in math, and the subject came to me naturally. His kinds words gave me a direction, challenging me to try to achieve my goal in life: to help other individuals with knowledge, science, and kindness.

I applied myself super hard, and took charge of destiny, passing several AP classes and graduating from John Marshall High School in 1995. I was thankful to UCLA for accepting me, and received Magna Cum Laude with a bachelors degree in Chemistry. My proudest accomplishment at UCLA was getting the high score and an A+ in Linear Algebra.

Subsequently, I graduated from the Chicago Medical School, which is now Rosalind Franklin University, and did internal medicine residency at the Washington University Hospital in St Louis, Missouri, and cardiology fellowship at the Los Angeles County Harbor-UCLA Hospital in Torrance, California. I trained with a world famous cardiologist, and Los Angeles native, Dr. John Michael Criley. I am very grateful for all of the mentorship and education that I have received at every stop of my training.

Medicine is a rapidly evolving field, and for me learning, change, and self improvement are a lifelong commitment. We can do so much more in cardiology now than we used to 10 years ago.

I am blessed to be serving the community where I grew up, and where I currently live. With the support of our staff we operate one of the busiest practices in the community.

I am living the American Dream. I love how our great nation values the truth and gives opportunities, to those who work hard, and do quality work.
